Singapore: The City Of Discoveries

Most of you might think “Singapore is a ‘small’ city, what else can you do there?” Continue reading as this blog might prove you wrong.

Through the years, Singapore has developed massively. There are more buildings, tourist spots, activities and public transportation lines compared to the early 2000s.

If you should visit Singapore, you would be amazed at how efficient their city is. Top of mind is their efficient transportation. Tourists need only to purchase an EZ-Link card at the airport station to ride Singapore’s MRT, LRT and bus services. Traffic in Singapore is almost non-existent with the help of their Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) which automatically charges a vehicle should it pass through selected roads in the city, diverting traffic to various parts of the city, lessening congestion.

Should you consider traveling there, you might want to consider these attractions.

Singapore City

Singapore River Walk and Merlion Park

This is one of the many famous attractions in Singapore. Here, tourists can either take a stroll along the river bank or join a guided tour inclusive of a river ride. But what has been the icon through all these years is the Merlion Statue. It’s a statue depicting a Merlion spitting water to the river. At night, it is dressed by multiple lights changing every now and then and from morning ’til evening, the statue has never been lonely with the amount of tourists coming in.

But what makes the Merlion special? Why does it represent Singapore?

The statue is depicted having a Lion’s head over a fish’s body. Its name is a play with words “Mer”, meaning “sea”, represented by the fish’s body, and the word “Lion”, represented by the statue’s head, which came from the country’s original name, Singapura. Singapore became known as the “Lion City” and that Merlion is proof that Singapore was once a former fishing village way back time immemorial.

So what is Singapore now as we speak?

Haji Lane

This tourist site is ideal for those on the artsy side. This tourist spot is composed of houses, restaurants and pubs congested together and decorated with several murals. If you’re fond of taking photos and of graphic arts, this is a must-see for you.
